BUFFALO, N.Y. — Embracing the history of Buffalo just got a little easier, now that AAA Western and Central New York has partnered with Preservation Buffalo Niagara. The two organizations have teamed up to offer a new way of showcasing the “Queen City” and its surrounding areas this summer.

Starting in June, full-day motorcoach tours of the city will be available courtesy of Horizon Club Tours, AAA’s group travel division and Buffalo Tours, an education program of PBN. Similar tours, called “field sessions” were first offered during the National Preservation Conference held in Buffalo this past October and their success prompted AAA and PBN to join forces.

“When AAA and Horizon Club Tours started operating these motorcoaches a year ago, our main goal was to promote the wonderful places in our own backyard,” said Barbara Hughes, General Manager of Horizon Club Tours. “We are proud to play a part in creating opportunities for both residents and tourists to see Buffalo in a whole new light.”

Starting in June, six motorcoach tours showcasing various parts of the city will be available:

  • Alternating Currents: Buffalo Overview: Travel the diverse neighborhoods of the city’s east, south and west sides.
  • Erie Canal Land Cruise: Walk Canal Street and sail through the Erie Canal’s locks on the Lockview V.
  • Great Museums of Buffalo: Visit four of Buffalo's most renowned museums, including the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and the Buffalo Transportation Pierce-Arrow Museum.
  • Hard Hat Tour: Buffalo’s Industrial History: Tour 1,500-acre Bethlehem Steel site and visit the Lackawanna Steel Museum.
  • Spend Your Day the Wright Way!: View a variety of Frank Lloyd Wright's designs including the Darwin Martin House complex.
  • Tona-wander & Riviera Theater Bus Tour: Take a tour of the historic Riviera Theatre and the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum.

“This new collaboration means Buffalo Tours now has more bus tour offerings than any place in Western New York," said Fred Schrock, Education Coordinator of PBN. “AAA and PBN have only just begun to show off the amazing landmarks and hidden gems that make Buffalo-Niagara such a growing tourist destination."
